How We Built Primebook’s Multi-Channel Growth Engine — Tripling Revenue While Cutting CPA by 46%
Primebook entered one of the toughest consumer electronics categories as a challenger — offering an affordable, purpose-built laptop for students, powered by PrimeOS and differentiated through capabilities like AI and Cloud PC.
But selling a new laptop brand required solving more than acquisition.
Students were the users, parents were often the buyers, marketplaces added another purchase surface, and schools represented an entirely different B2B opportunity. Primebook also had to establish credibility against familiar laptop brands while explaining why its proposition was different, not merely cheaper.
Key Business Challenge
Build a multi-channel growth engine across D2C, marketplaces and B2B — creating demand for a challenger laptop brand while converting students, parents and institutions at increasingly stronger economics.
Before Re-architecting, We Diagnosed Where a Challenger Brand Had to Earn Consideration
High Trust Barrier
Laptops are considered purchases dominated by established brands. Primebook needed to overcome the perceived risk of choosing a newer name.
User ≠ Buyer
Students used the product, but parents often made the purchase. Messaging had to create aspiration for one while establishing value for the other.
Multiple Buying Journeys
A D2C shopper, marketplace buyer and school evaluating bulk devices represented fundamentally different purchase journeys and economics.
From Selling a Laptop to
Building a Multi-Channel Engine Around Students, Parents and Institutions
Persona-Led Messaging
Built distinct communication around students and parents, balancing product aspiration with affordability, learning utility and purchase reassurance.
Conversion-Led D2C
Continuously tested landing pages, propositions and purchase journeys to turn more acquired traffic into customers rather than relying only on cheaper media.
#ROI
Creator-Led Trust
Used educational influencers and creator content alongside Primebook’s Shark Tank recognition to make an unfamiliar laptop brand easier to trust and evaluate.
Demand + Intent
Used Meta for discovery and demand generation while Google captured consumers actively researching laptops and relevant student-use cases.
B2B Demand Engine
Built dedicated campaigns for schools and educational institutions, creating a parallel pipeline for bulk purchases beyond individual consumer demand.
We built the growth system around who was buying, why they were buying and where the transaction would happen — combining demand creation, high-intent capture, trust and conversion optimisation.
Growth became cheaper as it got larger. Revenue tripled while CPA fell 46% — allowing Primebook to expand without buying growth at progressively weaker economics.
Our Learnings We Don’t Just Market Challenger Brands
We Build the Trust and Distribution Needed to Challenge Incumbents
01
Challenger brands need to win a reason-to-switch battle before a media battle. A differentiated proposition gives performance marketing something stronger than price to amplify.
02
When the user and buyer are different, one message rarely works. Student aspiration and parent reassurance need distinct roles within the same acquisition journey.
03
Third-party credibility matters disproportionately for high-consideration challenger brands. Creators, educational voices and existing recognition can compress the trust gap.
04
D2C, marketplaces and B2B shouldn’t be treated as replicas of the same funnel. Each channel represents a different buying context and needs its own conversion logic.
For us, scaling a challenger electronics brand isn’t about outspending established players — it’s about building enough differentiation, trust and conversion efficiency to earn a place in the consideration set.
