Case Study
BuyHatke

How We Built BuyHatke’s Acquisition Engine - Scaling to 2.4M+ App Installs and Growing DAU by 304%

BuyHatke is a shopping intelligence platform designed to help consumers make better purchase decisions through price comparison and discovery tools. Alongside its core shopping proposition, the product was expanding into newer use cases such as Cab Compare and Grocery Compare, while also taking its Chrome Extension to international markets including the US and UK.

But the next phase of growth couldn’t remain dependent on people already searching for BuyHatke.

The opportunity was to turn individual product utilities into independent acquisition hooks – attracting users through the specific problem they wanted solved, whether comparing shopping prices, cab fares or grocery costs. At the same time, the Chrome Extension presented a separate acquisition challenge across markets, devices and a more complex conversion journey.

Key Business Challenge

Build a scalable acquisition engine across Google and Meta that could expand BuyHatke beyond branded demand - using individual product features to acquire new users while improving activation, engagement and repeat usage across both mobile and desktop products.

Before Re-architecting, We Diagnosed
What Acquisition Stories Support The Multiple Use-Cases

Branded Demand Put a Ceiling on Acquisition

Capturing people already looking for BuyHatke could deliver efficient conversions, but couldn’t unlock the much larger universe of users searching for the problems its products solved.

One Product Had Multiple Reasons to Enter

Shopping comparison, Cab Compare and Grocery Compare addressed very different consumer moments. Treating BuyHatke as one generic proposition diluted the acquisition potential of each feature.

Chrome Extension Acquisition Had a Measurement Problem

Cross-domain journeys made it harder to connect advertising traffic reliably to extension downloads, limiting the quality of optimisation – particularly while expanding internationally.

From Branded Acquisition to
A Feature-Led Growth Engine Built Around User Behaviour

Features Became Acquisition Hooks

Built dedicated campaigns around Shopping, Cab Compare and other core utilities, allowing users to discover BuyHatke through the specific problem they were already trying to solve.

In-App Events Trained Campaigns Beyond Installs

Integrated behavioural events into campaign optimisation so media could increasingly distinguish between users who merely installed and those who actually engaged with the product.

#ROI

Meta Expanded Discovery

Used audience segmentation and feature-specific creative to introduce relevant utilities to consumers – creating incremental demand beyond Search.

Google Captured Non-Branded Intent

Search and Performance Max campaigns expanded acquisition beyond brand queries, targeting high-intent searches around the underlying comparison and savings use cases.

Chrome Extension Funnel Built for Global Acquisition

Resolved cross-domain tracking, created geo-specific landing pages and combined Search + PMax with localised creatives and keyword optimisation to acquire extension users across markets including the US and UK.

We stopped treating BuyHatke as one product with one funnel. Shopping, Cab Compare, Grocery Compare and the Chrome Extension became distinct acquisition opportunities - each with its own user intent, messaging and campaign logic.

The strongest outcome wasn’t reaching 2.4M+ installs.

It was what happened to usage alongside acquisition.

DAU increased 304% and MAU increased 345%, while conversion rates improved 260%. That meant BuyHatke wasn’t simply accumulating downloaded apps – the acquisition engine was bringing in users who were increasingly finding reasons to engage with the product.

At the same time, reducing Chrome Extension cost per download by more than 80% created a viable acquisition engine for BuyHatke’s international desktop product.

Our Learnings
We Don’t Just Acquire App Installs

We Build Acquisition Engines Around the Behaviours That Create Active Users
01

Multi-utility products shouldn’t have a single acquisition proposition. Every meaningful use case can become its own doorway into the product and unlock an entirely new pool of non-branded demand.

02

Install optimisation creates installed users; behavioural optimisation creates active ones. In-app signals become increasingly valuable once acquisition reaches meaningful scale.

03

Feature launches can double as acquisition expansion. New utilities don’t just add product value - they create new search intent, audiences and reasons for consumers to discover the brand.

04

International growth breaks quickly when measurement is weak. Fixing cross-domain tracking and localisation isn’t campaign hygiene - it’s infrastructure required for scalable acquisition.

For us, app growth isn’t about accumulating installs – it’s about continuously expanding why users discover the product, and giving the acquisition engine enough behavioural intelligence to find more people who will actually use it.
